Securing Safety and Peace
Protective orders are crucial legal tools designed to ensure your safety and well-being in situations of domestic violence, harassment, or threats. They provide a legal shield, prohibiting an individual from approaching or contacting you.
Cohabitant Protective Order
This is for people who:
- Are/Were Married
- Live/used to live together
- Are/were in a consensual sexual relationship
- Have/had children together or are expecting children
- Are related
And have been experiencing abuse such as physical harm, threats of violence or physical harm, or domestic violence (including sexual violence)
Child Protective Order
This is a special Protective Order that protects children from any kind of abuse, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, a sexual offense under Utah Code 76-5b-201 or 204, or human trafficking of a child under Utah Code 76-5-308.5. Any adult can ask for a protective order on behalf of a minor who is under 18 years old.
Before requesting a child protective order, the abuse must first be reported to the Division of Child and Family Services online or over the phone at 855-323-3237
Sexual Violence Protective Order
This is for people who are not in any kind of relationship, but sexual assault was committed. This includes all instances of sexual violence such as rape, sodomy, sexual assault, indecent liberties, distribution of an intimate image, sexual extortion, human trafficking, etc.
Workplace Violence Protective Order
This is for employers who want to protect their employees and business from a customer or person who came to their business and hurt or threatened to hurt an employee or caused or threatened to cause significant damage to the business’ property
Dating Violence Protective Order
This is for people 18 and over who are in a dating relationship and have been experiencing dating violence and abuse
Civil Stalking Injunction
This is for people who are not in any kind of relationship, but have been experiencing stalking. It is different than a Protective Order but works in a similar way.
